How to Get an Internship with Tata Motors

Internship at TATA Motors

Tata Motors, a part of the renowned Tata groups offers one of the most sought-after internship programs for students of different streams. Known as SIP (Summer Internship Program), Tata Motors offers two types of internships. One for engineering students from paramount institutes and other for management students from best business schools.

In the SIP, the students get a chance to have hands-on working experience in real projects and help in seamless migration from a student life to the working culture of a corporate. During your working tenure if you come up with some counter-intuitive suggestion i.e come across as an innovative, passionate personnel, you might end up getting a pre-placement offer from the mechanical giant.

There are three different ways of applying for internship at Tata Motors

Through Campus Placement

Tata Motors visit some of the top engineering and B-school for selecting interns. If your college is in the Tata Motor’s list, then wait for their visit.

The process of selecting intern through campus placement is a gruelling one. Interns are shortlisted on the basis of their GPA as well as the past projects they have done. This is followed by group discussions and interviews.

The students selected are then put through a series of aptitude and psychometric tests. Then few other rounds of the pre-placement selection process are undertaken which is finished with a final personal interview.

Online Application Through Website

If Tata Motors don’t visit your campus, don’t lose hope. You can also send an online application, through their career page. Select the Unit, Location, and Function you want to apply to and then upload your resume.

Depending upon your merit and the availability of the projects, you will be contacted by the HR department with details of further steps. If you have a reference from someone in the company, it will help strengthen your application. If not, you can also approach people through FB, Quora and LinkedIn and ask them for a reference.

Through Email

This is a 2-step process.

1. First of all, you need to send an email to summertraining@tatamotors.com. Keep the subject line of the email as ‘Request for Application Form’ You will get an automatically generated reply to your email with an attached application form.

2. Fill in the application form and email it again to summertraining@tatamotors.com. Do not forget to write a cover letter and attach your CV along with it.

A good time to send email is during Feb-March as that is when the selection is done for the coming year SIP. You must have minimum 60% marks throughout your career to be able to apply for an internship at Tata Motors. Most of the internships at Tata Motors come with a stipend range of 25k-30k along a with Pre-placement offer for exceptional candidates.
