Hello my name is Intern

Summer is that magical time when, even though the temperature is soaring, the mind is very relaxed. We can finally go back to our homes, or go out on a long vacation!

But as the final year of college draws closer, the pressure keeps increasing to get placed in a good company through campus placements. To get placed in your dream company, you need to have a resume that stands out from the crowd. This is line that I'm sure you must have heard several times in college.

So, if you want a resume that speaks volumes about your abilities then read on.

As you may already know, most of the summer vacation is spent without accomplishing anything significant (atleast, for some of us). But, there is a way to put all that precious time to good use, and that is by applying for a summer internship! There are plenty of benefits to doing a summer internship, and I'm going to tell you the top 5. So let's begin.

1. It's all about time management

When you are working for a company as an intern, you aren't exempted from the basic rules that the employees have to follow. You are expected to be on time, just like the others.

Also, you will have to meet the deadlines set for the projects that you will be working on. These things will definitely teach you to plan out your available time in a better manner, and make you a good time manager.

2. Makes you behave like a professional

You may say that you are just an intern in the company that you're interning for, but you will be expected to behave like a professional. That means you will have to talk professionally and (maybe) even dress professionally.

However, there is nothing to worry about, because you can always learn by paying attention to how the employees behave in the company premises. Always remember to be on your best behavior within the company premises at all times, because you will be under constant observation.

If you have made a mistake, then apologize sincerely and make amends. Do not argue.

3. Helps you understand your field of interest better

Let us suppose that your field of interest is Web Development, and that you are doing an internship in that field. This will be a huge career boost for you as a Web Developer because you will have gained hands-on experience in your field. What can be better than that?(Other than getting a job in that field!)

4. Get shortlisted as a potential employee

Interning at a company closer to your final semester gives you a chance to showcase your skills. If you have impressed them, you will be on their list of top candidates for a job.

5. A great way to earn some extra money

If you are someone who likes to earn while they learn, then a paid summer internship is a great way to do that. Most companies pay their interns quite a bit of money, and depending on the level of skill, they can even up the pay. So, doing a paid internship not only looks good on your resume, but makes you feel good about earning your own money.

You will realize the value of hard-earned money, and you can become independent to some extent.

Time is the most precious resource that we, as students, have. So, I, yet another engineering student recommend you to utilise your time in a way that is most beneficial to your growth and career - atleast to strengthen your foundation.
