Purva Verma, SMVIT student - Internship at Explara

Purva is an undergraduate of Visvesvaraya Technological University presently pursuing a degree in Telecommunication Engineering. Her academic exposure and outspoken attitude gave her a strong foundation in ORCAD simulator, LabVIEW, Arduino and other technical skills. Purva is a NTAT certified student who during her internship tenure has demonstrated strong project delivery skills and expertise in communicating with clients and colleagues.

She recently completed her Digital Marketing Internship at India's fastest growing Event Ticketing company, Explara. To bring all the inside insights, Purva shares her views with us.

Q.1 Where did you do your internship?

I did my Internship at Explara, an All-in-One Event Integrated Platform. My internship on on-site and I worked from their Bangalore office.

Q.2 How did you get your internship?

I got my internship through Switch Idea.

Q.3 Is this Your first internship? If not then where did you do your previous internship?

Yes, it is my first internship.

Q.4 What kind of experience did you have during your internship?

The experience was amazing, I enjoyed every moment of it. I loved the assignment they gave me and I got to learn a lot about various segments regarding digital marketing and branding.

Q.5 Who do you think was your actual mentor during the internship?

Avish Hakani was my mentor throughout the internship.

Q.6 In what way this internship has inspired you?

It was awe-inspiring. It helped me to discover how marketing and business world actually works which I was always very keen to know, being an engineering student. I was amazed. In addition to this, I also got to learn about professional ethics and organisation culture. It was indeed very good to experience.

Q.7 What would you suggest to your fellow engineering students? I would suggest to all my friends that it's completely okay to have interest in fields which are not related to your courses. Moreover, it's like a challenge to accept your field of interest and work for it. At this stage, at the mid of your graduation if you feel that you can do better in some other field then go for it because it's not too late, maybe you think so, maybe your parents think so, maybe your friends think so, but trust me it's really not that late. How would you know if you'll not test yourself? Maybe what you think as "just a hobby" can be the source of your successful career and trust me that would be the best gift you can give to yourself.

Q.8 During your internship at Explara, what is the single most important thing that you have learnt?

The most important thing which I learnt was to understand the demand, that we have to digitally sell what the people need not what we want or what we think. This is very well explained by Seth Godin "Don't find customers for your products, find products for your customers". In general, come out from your comfort zone and work according to the demand of the situation.

Q.9 Seeing yourself doing something different from your fellow classmates, what is that one thing you think you did differently than others?

The only difference is, I was okay with it. I live in the present and if at this point I feel that I am interested in something else and able to afford the change caused by it in my regular routine then I would definitely give it a try.

Q.10 When did you appear for NTAT exam and how was your experience in answering the ticklish questions?

I appeared for NTAT in 2017 when I was in 3rd SEM of engineering. The experience was really good. Every experience which helps you to test yourself is good. I am grateful that I gave the NTAT exam also thankful to Switch Idea.
